Agricultural exports expected to be below previous year's level in 2018
GEFA calls for stronger policy initiatives to reduce trade restrictions
GEFA is forecasting exports of German agricultural products and foodstuffs as well as agricultural technology of 77.2 billion euros for 2018. This is expected to be slightly below the previous year's level (-1.4%). The industry was able to maintain its position as the third-strongest export nation despite difficult competitive conditions. Nevertheless, it is clear how important fair trading conditions are for the industry. The current free trade agreement with Japan is a positive example of future trade facilitation, but will by no means suffice to compensate for the significant declines in Asia.
